History

In the early 1940's George Constantakis came from Greece to The Bahamas with a dream to build a hotel in the heart of the capital, Nassau. A hotel which would be clean, comfortable and affordable to visitors to Nassau, both from the Family Islands and from abroad.

His dream was realized and the Grand Central Hotel, located on Charlotte Street, just off Bay Street serves people from all over the world - North Americans, Canadians, people from the Caribbean, Europeans, as well as people coming to Nassau from the Family Islands and needing a friendly and affordable place to stay.

One of the many attractions is that the staff have been with the hotel for many years and visitors come to know them personally over time, addressing them by their first names and affirming the family atmophere that prevails.

Shirley, the housekeeper, remembers the early forties when she was a child and her parents used to work for George Constantakis. Shirley has remained with the hotel all these years and is well known and loved by visitors and staff alike.

Next to the Hotel itself, stands Malone House, once a family home and sold to George Constantakis only on the death of its owner, Mr. Malone. A Guest House is now housed in Malone House and visitors are given the option of staying either there or in the main hotel building.

In recent years, the development of the Financial Centre a few yards away from the hotel has resulted in an increase in the clientele coming to stay there.

Grand Central sees people from all over the world and from all walks of life and the staff welcome each and everyone with warmth and friendliness.
